Shrewsbury Town Common Scarecrows To Honor Essential Workers
The Shrewsbury Garden Club is putting a new spin on an old tradition and honoring essential workers in the process.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury is kicking off fall with its annual Fall Festival and the coronavirus pandemic has put some restrictions on the festivities but the Scarecrows on the Common will return this year, with their own twist.
The Shrewsbury Garden Club decided to use the 16th annual event as a way to honor the essential workers who have been on the front lines from the start of the pandemic. This year's scarecrow contest will feature scarecrows dressed as essential workers on the Shrewsbury Town Common.
Residents and businesses are encouraged to enter the contest for free and make a themed scarecrow at home. The scarecrows will be on the common for three weeks so organizers ask that participants not use perishable items or food like gourds, pumpkins or tomatoes. Participants will have to prop the scarecrows on the field themselves.
