Toking: Shrewsbury Votes Yes On Marijuana Establishments

Town meeting members defeated an amendment that would have banned recreational marijuana.

SHREWSBURY, MA—Shrewsbury town meeting members at a special town meeting on Monday voted to allow recreational marijuana establishments in town.

Article 1, which was to ban establishments, was defeated, as it needed a two-thirds majority.

The second article, which passed, amended zoning districts, allowing recreational and medical facilities in certain areas. Articles three and four passed, electing a 3 percent sales tax on recreational marijuana and also would prohibit smoking or eating marijuana on town-owned land.
