SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Trails Committee has announced three new trails on the Rawson Hill property.

The Rawson Hills Trails system has expanded by nearly 3 miles with new paths. The town will celebrate the new paths with a grand opening ceremony on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The property, which is located on the north side of town, comprises about 75 acres of town conservation land and 60 acres of Massachusetts DCR land. There are rivers, wetlands, meadows and woods.

“This is the first major trail system in the North end of Shrewsbury and the first new park area in decades," said Stephen Hess, chair of the Shrewsbury Trails Committee. "It allows access to many neighbors to simply walk out their door and enjoy the benefits of nature."

The Shrewsbury Trails Committee was formed in 2011 and became an official part of Town governance in 2022. The group is tasked with exploring ideas for developing and enhancing new and existing trails.

The project at Rawson Hills took a year to complete, according to the town. It included extensive planning, approvals from DCR and the Conservation Commission, multiple public hearings and addressing resident concerns.

The town also said it could not have been completed without hundreds of volunteer hours.

"The overwhelmingly positive comments and emails from the community validates the effort the committee and supporters have provided," said Hess.
