Attempted Mugging and Beating Outside Mexican Restaurant

El Potro Mexican Grill was the scene of a violent crime early Saturday, say police.

An employee at El Potro was the victim of a violent attempted mugging early on Saturday, according to a statement from the Somerville Police Department.

In the aftermath, Elijah Clarke, 18, of Cambridge, Sergio Aparicio-Jimenez, 20, of Somerville, and a juvenile were arrested and charged with armed assault to robbery. On Sunday, Joshua Resendes, 20, of Cambridge, was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement in the attack.

According to the authorities, the victim stood outside the 61 Union Square eatery at 2:35 a.m., waiting for a fellow El Potro employee. Before he knew it, four men surrounded him. One held a gun to his waist, and another demanded he fork over his money and cell phone.

Once the victim said he had no cash available, the quartet of alleged ne’er-do-wells pummeled him in the face until the aforementioned other employee could intervene. Officers report that the victim was bleeding from the mouth by the time they arrived.

After reviewing the incident on El Potro’s surveillance cameras, police say they recognized the juvenile and Resendes as two of the four assailants. Soon after, three men matching suspects’ descriptions were identified on the corner of Bonner Avenue and Columbus Avenue. Police drove the victim to their location, where he told them that these, indeed, were three out of the four men who beat him up.
