From The Bulletin Board: Connie Chan of Somerville High School Wins 1st Place in Region IV State Science Fair Sponsored by Distrigas
17 Local Students Honored for Award-Winning Science Fair Projects.

Boston – May 18, 2015 -- Distrigas of Massachusetts recently honored 19 students, primarily from Everett, and also Lexington and Somerville, for their academic success and outstanding work in the field of science. Students, along with their families, school administrators, and educators, were recognized at an Awards Dinner held in their honor at the New England Aquarium in Boston. Distrigas has been sponsoring the local scholarship program and science fair competition for more than 30 years.
“Given the importance of science to our natural gas business, we believe it’s important to support students who show drive, creativity, and a commitment in this area,” said Carol Churchill, Manager of Communications for Distrigas. “The students we’re honoring have shown innovation, academic achievement, and an interest in understanding the world around them.”

Distrigas awarded $5,000 scholarships to two students – Vesna Imsirovic of Everett High School and Phuong Ngu of Pope John XXIII High School. Both students are graduating seniors who have impressive records of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement.
In addition, Distrigas awarded prizes and/or certificates of achievement to the following students for their outstanding student science fair projects:

Region IV State Science Fair winners
· 1st Place – Connie Chan of Somerville High School
· 2nd Place – Daniel Lu of Lexington High School
· 3rd Place – Michael Yang of Lexington High School
· Honorable Mention – Christopher Boucher of Everett High School
Everett High School Science Fair winners
- 1st Place tie – Christopher Boucher, Jack Calascibetta, and Obed Posada
- 2nd Place tie – Emilee Guzman and Angoori Rana
- 3rd Place tie – Derek Barbosa, Timothy Ewing, and Conor Rachlin
Everett Middle School Science Fair winners
- 1st Place team – Elmer Sandoval and Oscar Segovia
- 2nd Place team – Kayo Gomes and Tyler Pearce
- 3rd Place team – Melisa Demaku and Ngoc Nguyen
