Five Things: High School Happenings, Local Photo Contest Winners

Also, a Somerville musician and former burn victim performs tonight at Berklee College of Music.

1) BU Mobile Lab
Science students at Somerville High School will be performing microbiology experiments at the BU Mobile Lab, which is stationed outside the high school this week and will also be there next week. The mobile lab gives students the opportunity to work with some state-of-the-art equipment. If you see the lab outside the school, now you know what's going on.

2) Somerville High School Open House
Also at Somerville High School, today is the school's open house. Prospective parents and students can visit the school and learn about programs there. Today's open house is from 8:15 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m.

3) Somerville Resident, Burn Victim to Perform at Berklee
Leanis Almanzar, 27, of Somerville, suffered from third-degree burns on 80 percent of his body when he was 5 years old. He was in the Dominican Republic at the time, and a generator exploded. He was treated at the Shriners Hospital for Children, and today he'll be performing at Berklee College of Music, according to an email sent on behalf of Burn Awareness Week, which is this week.
