Somerville Among America's 'Most Generous' Cities: GoFundMe

SOMERVILLE, MA — When it comes to giving back and offering a helping hand, Somerville residents are leading the way. According to GoFundMe, the crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for celebrations and challenging circumstances, Somerville was the ninth most generous city in the country.

"Throughout the hardships of 2020, we've seen an extraordinary outpouring of generosity from a global community that’s united by a desire to take action and help others," the company said.

The most generous cities in America, based on the number of donations per capita on GoFundMe, are:

1. Silver Spring, MD
2. Spring, TX
3. Marietta, GA
4. Alpharetta, GA
5. Fort Lauderdale, FL
6. Alexandria, VA
7. Berkeley, CA
8. Evanston, IL
9. Somerville, MA
10. Rockville, MD

Massachusetts was also named the most generous state in 2020.

GoFundMe celebrated its tenth anniversary this year. Over the past decade, there have been over 150 million donations collected through the platform, and more than 110,000 charities benefited.
