Somerville Couple Gives Half Their Salary to Charity

"It gives us satisfaction to know that we're doing something more important with our money than buying a big-screen TV."

One Somerville couple is drawing up attention for all the right reasons after donating half of their combined salary to charity last year.

Jeff Kaufman and Julia Wise, of Somerville, earned about $256,000 last year. They donated exactly half of it to charity. The couple is married, has a daughter and is expecting a second child. So why are they such generous folks? Kaufman and Wise are just looking to assist those who are less fortunate in any way possible.

“We have more than what we need and there are a lot of people who don’t,” Kaufman told WBZ-TV. “We like to share what we can.”

According to WBZ-TV, the couple has donated a great deal of money to organizations focused on promoting world health.
