Somerville Native Joins City Council Race

SOMERVILLE, MA — Resident Holly Simione announced her campaign for City Councilor ahead of the 2025 city election later this year.

The Somerville native is also a graduate of Somerville High School. After earning her degree in Science and Business Management from Lesley College, she entered the field of nonprofits. Simione currently works as a Case Manager for Incompass Human Services, which specializes in assisting families that faces challenges such as lack of access to critical health care services, having medically-complex children, homelessness, food insecurity, and more.

“I’m proud of my proven track record of consensus-minded leadership, effective bridge-building, and thoughtful collaboration on socio-economic issues and regional equity,” Simione said.

While Simione is vying for her first chance to serve on the city council, she does have some experience in and around local government. She currently serves as the Chair of the Ward 4 Somerville Democratic Committee and the Somerville Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Formerly, she was a Governor-appointed member and Chair of the Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council.

"I have years of successful activism experience at both the state and local levels, authoring and testifying on several bills, promoting critical budget amendments, forging relationships and partnerships with change makers, and serving to uplift marginalized communities,” Simione said.

Simione is vying for one of the four Councilor-At-Large seats on the 11 member council. Incumbents Kristen Strezo and Wlifred Mbah are seeking reelection, while the other two incumbents Jason Wilson and Willie Burnley Jr., are running for Mayor.

Simione is holding an official campaign launch event at Sally O’Brien’s Restaurant and Bar on Wednesday, June 4.
