Somerville Needs Tour Guides for Historic Milk Row Cemetery
Founded in 1804, Milk Row Cemetery is the city's oldest burial ground.

Somerville’s Historic Preservation Commission and Historic Somerville are searching for ”docents” or volunteer tour guides to teach visitors about the city’s oldest burial ground, Milk Row Cemetery, which was founded in 1804.
“No prior experience is required, just a strong interest in Somerville history and an ability to convey your enthusiasm with members of the public,” the job description reads. Those who are interested in the role must be open to wearing 1800s attire as part of their costume.

Milk Row Cemetery, which is located next to the Market Basket near Union Square, is open to the public one Sunday afternoon per month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Other volunteers are also needed for opening the Cemetery one weekday evening through November.
Somerville began its docent program was three years ago to help guide visitors around the cemetery and answer any questions they may have.
