Somerville Sets Unveiling For Renovated Dilboy Stadium Field

Improvements include a new turf field and resurfaced running track, as well as improved communication boxes and drainage system.

SOMERVILLE, MA — Mayor Joseph Curtatone and Ward 7 Councilor and Mayor-elect Katjana Ballantyne will host a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the newly renovated Dilboy Stadium track and field.

Originally installed in 2005, the turf at Dilboy was "well beyond" its lifespan, according to a press release.

Renovations began in June to install a state-of-the-art synthetic turf field with an organic infill and resurface the running track. Additional upgrades include a retaining wall built with granite blocks salvaged from the old Charlestown Bridge, new electric and communication boxes and new drains around the field perimeter to prevent stormwater runoff from entering Alewife Brook.
