Somerville's 5 Snow Plows Officially Branded With New Names
The Somerville DPW chose the winning names last spring after local pre-K and kindergarten classes submitted ideas.

SOMERVILLE, MA — The City of Somerville's snow plows have been branded with their new names after a contest to choose those names was held last spring, the Somerville Department of Public Works revealed this week.
The Somerville DPW posted a video on social media of employees putting decals featuring the names on each of the five snow plows: Overdrive, Khione-The Goddess of Snow, Snowsleeper, Snow Leopard and Caterpillar.

Last spring, according to the Somerville Times, the city's DPW partnered with Somerville Public Schools pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes on a Snow Plow Name Contest. Entries were submitted by several classes, and the Somerville DPW chose the five winners.

The competition also gave the students a chance to learn about how snow plows are important community helpers and keep the streets safe after a winter storm.
The Somerville Times reported that the winning entries came from: Ms. Scrima's kindergarten class at Kennedy School (Overdrive), Miss Bruneault's kindergarten class at Healey School (Khione-The Goddess of Snow), Mr. Yiu's pre-K class at Capuano Early Childhood Center (The Snowsleeper), Ms. Cunningham's pre-K class at Capuano Early Childhood Center (Caterpillar), and Mr. DeBenedictis's pre-K class at West Somerville Neighborhood School (Snow Leopard).
