2. NARA PARK:  Acton Recreation is accepting NARA Park Beach Membership registrations for the 2013 Beach Season, May 25 - August 23. Register early and receive a special discounted savings with our early bird rate. NARA Park Beach Membership offers both Acton and non-Acton residents a variety of memberships to tailor to your needs including family, couple, individual, and senior. The beach will be open daily beginning May 25-June 14 from 10AM-6PM and from June 15 to August 23, 9AM-7PM.

Membership rates for the 2013 season are:  Acton Family (year-round same household) $135 until May 31 - beginning June 1: $185, Acton Couple (2 adults same household) $100 until May 31 beginning June 1:  $135, Acton Individual $75 until May 31 -beginning June 1: $105, Acton Senior (1 person-ages 65 &up) $25 -same rate all season.  Non-Resident Family (year-round same household) $185 until May 31 -beginning June 1: $235, Non-Resident Couple (2 adults same household) $140 until May 31 -beginning June 1 price increases to $175, Non-Resident Individual $110 until May 31 -beginning June 1: $135, Non-Resident Senior (1 person-ages 65 & up) $40 - same rate all season.

Daily beach rates are available (residents must show ID for resident rate).  Acton Residents: $5 per person for ages 2 & up, with a cap of $20 per household up to 6 members.  Non-Acton Residents: $7 per person for ages 11 & under, $10 for ages 12 & up, with a cap of $30 per household up to 6 members.  A special group rate (must submit a Field and Facilities Request Form) is also available for $3 Acton Resident and $5 Non-Resident.

3. LITTLE LEAGUE AND SENIOR NIGHT: Today the Lincoln-Sudbury varsity baseball team will be hosting Little League and Senior Night during the 7pm game vs. Waltham at Feeley Field in Sudbury. Little League players wearing their Sudbury baseball shirts will be invited on the field at 6:45pm for the senior recognition ceremony. They will also receive free popcorn in an L-S bull horn while supplies last. Questions may be directed to FriendsOfLSBaseball@gmail.com.

4. HOLIDAYS HELD TODAY: Today is National Bike to Work Day. National Bike Month was started by the League. 2006 marks the 50th anniversary. The event was timed to coincide with the arrival of warmer weather. It has inspired countless bike rides, safety inspections, commuter challenges, ribbon-cuttings, "share the road" promotions, and other varied celebrations of bicycling in communities across the nation. One of the most popular activities in Bike Month, is encouraging people to bicycle to work and forsake their motor vehicles for just one day. Bike to Work Week is the third week in May, and the third Friday in May is designated as National Bike to Work Day.

5. THIS DAY IN HISTORY:

  • 1792 — The New York Stock Exchange was established when a group of 24 brokers and merchants met by a tree on what is now Wall Street and signed the Buttonwood Agreement.
