5 Things: Park and Rec Official Honored, Construction Projects and More
A few facts, figures and tidbits to start your Wednesday.

1. KUDOS: Anna Wood, the Adaptive Sports and Recreation Specialist for Sudbury Park and Rec, has been selected by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) to receive the 2013 Young Professional Fellowship. This Fellowship provides young professionals with the opportunity to explore the operation of NRPA and its leadership at the 2013 NRPA Congress & Exposition in Houston, Texas, Oct. 8-10 and the 2014 NRPA Legislative Forum in Washington, DC in 2014.
2. BUILDING UP SUDBURY: Development activities underway include the commencement of construction at the new Green Company development, Dudley Brook Preserve, located on Tall Pine Drive. This development will include 26 condominium homes for seniors. The Coolidge at Sudbury, located at 189 Boston Post Road, broke ground recently. When completed, this development will include 64 rental apartments for income-qualified seniors. Both of these developments anticipate occupancy beginning in the spring of 2014.
With the approval of the ballot question for funding of the Town Center Intersection project, the Town will finalize the engineering plans and go out to bid sometime in the fall of 2013. Construction is anticipated to begin during spring of 2014, with completion of the project in the summer of 2014.Walkway construction is due to be completed on Old Framingham Road and Peakham Road in August. Planning for a new walkway on Dudley Road has begun. Any neighborhoods interested in having a walkway constructed should contact the Planning and Community Development office at 978-639-3387.
3. AND YOU THOUGHT ELECTION SEASON WAS OVER: With the vacancy caused by Edward J. Markey’s resignation from 5th Congressional District Representative, a Special State Primary and Special State Election have been scheduled for 2013 to fill this position. The 5th Congressional District Representative seat represents precincts 1A, 2, 3, 4 and 5 in Sudbury. Because precinct 1 voters are represented by Nicola Tsongas, they will not be included in either the primary or election. Below are the dates for the two upcoming elections.
4. INCASE YOU MISSED IT: U.S. Army Sgt. Michael MacDonald, a graduate of Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, has arrived home after spending nine months in Afghanistan. MacDonald enlisted in the Army as an 11B. He attended OSUT at Fort Benning on July 7, 2010. He graduated from OSUT in October 2010 and attended Airborne School. Click here for more.
