Hopkinton and Framingham Residents Receive River Steward Awards

Sudbury Valley Trustees (SVT) is pleased to announce that two dedicated SVT volunteers, Simon Vos of Hopkinton and Jim Lagerbom of Framingham, have been selected to receive the 2016 River Steward Award by the Wild and Scenic River Stewardship Council and The League of Women Voters. As outstanding advocates for the Sudbury, Concord and Assabet Rivers, Simon and Jim have graciously shared their love of the rivers with SVT members and the public through numerous paddles they have led over many years. As longtime volunteers with SVT, Simon and Jim inspire others to experience our rivers, and guide paddlers to special places they may not otherwise have seen. Simon, a former Marine and certified wilderness trainer, loves the adventure of a challenging paddle, such as through the rushing high spring waters of the Sudbury, and summer full moon paddles on Lake Whitehall. Jim is an avid kayaker, who can be found on the water in all seasons, as long as the river is not frozen, photographing wildlife and landscapes along his journeys to share with SVT. Recipients will be presented with their awards at a RiverFest reception on June 17.

Simon and Jim will be leading a free paddle for Sudbury Valley Trustees as part of this year’s RiverFest celebration, “Connecting Communities: A RiverFest Concord River Paddle” on Saturday, June 18 at 1:00 pm.
