Lincoln-Sudbury Students Plan Walkout On March 14

Students from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School join a national walkout event this week in a call for stricter gun laws.

SUDBURY, MA—Students from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School plan to join a national movement this week to protest gun violence in schools and call for stricter laws. Students will walk out of class starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 14.

The walkout events are planned across the country in direct response to the 17 students and staff who were killed and numerous people injured in the Valentine's Day massacre in Parkland, Florida. The walkout takes place on the one-month anniversary of the shooting.

Students participating in the national walkout on March 14 will leave their classrooms for 17 minutes – one minute for each life taken at the school on Feb. 14, according to organizers.

"This walkout is intended to commemorate the 17 lives lost, advocate against gun violence, and support mental health services," said Wong. "Staff will be involved to coordinate and ensure safety of student participants."

"This event will involve only LS students, staff and police," said Wong. "During the period of the walkout, except in the case of an emergency, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the campus. Only LS students escorted by staff and police will be present at the walkout. "
