Sudbury-Lincoln Students Protest Gun Violence In National Walkout

Lincoln-Sudbury High School students will join students across the country in a March 14 protest against gun violence.

SUDBURY, MA—Students at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School are joining youthful voices across the country and participating in a March 14 walkout to raise awareness of gun violence and pressure Congress to enact stricter gun controls.

Students across the country are planning to walk out of school at 10 a.m. on March 14 for 17 minutes—one minute each for each of the victims killed last week at the Marjorie Stoneham Douglas High in Florida.

The Florida shooting was the seventh of eight school shootings that have left 20 people dead 41 people injured since the start of the year.

Superintendent Bella Wong acknowledged the walk out in a letter to the school community about a successful school shooter training that was held there on Thursday.

She wrote, "I have received many inquiries about a student walkout that will take place on March 14. This initiative emanates from the student survivors of the Parkland High School tragedy in Florida that has gained nation-wide notice and broad interest from students across the country. The timing of the walk out will commemorate the exact numbers of lives lost due to the Parkland shooting. Lincoln-Sudbury is working in coordination with students who wish to participate."
