Sudbury's Back To School Guide 2018

Find important dates, what's new this year and a lot more on the Sudbury 2018-2019 school guide.

SUDBURY, MA—Is it us, or do the summers feel shorter and shorter. Parents perhaps are breathing a sigh of relief, but kids and teachers are checking their calendars daily as the school year gets ready to hit.

Here's a guide to help you navigate the march back to the classroom.

When does school start?

The first day of classes for all students in grades K-8 is Wednesday, Aug. 29. The Pre-K program at Noyes Elementary School begins on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

School enrollment

Student enrollment is currently 2,605 children. This is a decrease of 54 students from the final enrollment update conducted during FY18, on June 19.

In the district (the Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School is its own district - see below for information):

Sudbury Public Schools consists of five schools: Peter Noyes Elementary School, Isreal Loring Elementary School, General John Nixon Elementary School, Josiah Haynes Elementary School and Ephraim Curtis Middle School.

What's new?

Sudbury Public Schools welcomed a number of new teachers and administrators to the district over the summer, including Nixon Elementary School Principal Susan Magoveny, Haynes Elementary School Principal Jeffrey Labroad, and Haynes/Loring Assistant Principal David Gaita. Additionally, the former assistant principal of Loring Elementary School, Sara Harvey, was promoted to principal. Also, the new playground at Haynes is nearly fully installed with the ribbon cutting scheduled for next week.

Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School is its own district.

"We are very excited and looking forward to welcoming new and returning students to school," said Superintendent Bella Wong.

When does school start?

Ninth graders start on Aug. 28. The official first day for all students is Aug. 29.

School enrollment

An official student count is not available until Oct. 1. As of end of July, the high school had a running count of 1,521. "We are projecting to be about the same as last year," said Wong.

What's new?

While there have been discussions, there are no changes to the start time for this school year. "We are hoping to make progress on that decision later this fall," said Wong.

There are 11 new or part-time teachers or administrators hired so far, some of whom are covering for leaves of absence, in history, math, METCO, music, science, special education, wellness and world language.

Teachers participated in workshops throughout the summer.

"Buildings and Grounds did an excellent job of preparing the grounds and performing annual maintenance and repair of the building in a timely fashion," said Wong. "Everything looks great and ready for start of school."
