AARP HomeFit

On Monday, January 29 at 1:00 PM Beth Gray-Nix a HomeFit Facilitator will be at the Sudbury Senior Center. The AARP HomeFit program educates older adults how to navigate all living spaces safely and independently to allow them to remain in their own homes. Participants will receive information on how to evaluate their home for “livability” should they themselves or one of their family members become unable to use stairs, or need to rely on assistive devices. Beth will help you understand how homes can be designed and modified to keep you safe. All attendee will receive a personal copy of the AARP Home Fit Guide. Archery Class

On February 9, from 9:30 AM-10:30 AM we are offering a free trial archery class in the gym. The instructor is Mark Pirrello, NTS Level 3 Certified Coach, USA Archery and NFAA Instructor. Mark is the owner of On The Mark Archery. Shooting a traditional bow combines health benefits like focus, concentration, muscle memory and stretching. Come try out this unique sport. Zoology: Understanding the Animal World

In this DVD series, the Great Courses teams up with the Smithsonian to bring you 24 visually rich lectures that take you behind the scenes of not only the animal world but of the scientists trying to understand how it works. Join us at the Sudbury Senior Center on Fridays, Feb. 9 - Apr. 27 at 1:00 PM. Dr. Donald E. Moore III Director of the Oregon Zoo and senior science advisor at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo has crafted a wonderful introduction to the fundamentals of zoology through the eyes of a trained zoologist. Packed with exclusive footage from zoos, animals in their natural habitats, as well as interviews with other Smithsonian scientists, these lectures will reveal the hidden world of animals. Heart of Meditation – New class

Heart of Meditation will take place on Tuesdays at 10:00 AM, Feb 13 – April 3. This is a 6 week class and cost $42.00. Katherine McClean LDN, CYT, CPT has been teaching meditation through her workshops and yoga classes for over 20 years and has maintained a personal meditation practice for even longer. She is passionate about sharing her love of meditation with others. Having studied many different meditative styles, she has a wealth of experience, which helps to open her students to the deep and lasting benefits of meditation. . Class can be taught in chairs or you can sit on the floor if you prefer. Please sign up ASAP; we need eight people to run class. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart: Tips for a Healthy Lifestyle

Join the Board of Health nurse Phyllis Schilp, BSN, RN on Monday, February 12 at 11:00 AM for a brief overview of heart disease and healthy choice options. Afterwards stay for a “My Life” Check - screening for Heart Disease. Experience America: A Smithsonian Tour

This DVD series will continue until March 28, (new end date due to cancelled class on 1/17/18) 10 Wednesdays left starting at 9:30 AM. The Smithsonian is a repository of America’s history, achievement, aspirations and identity. It holds the artifacts of great leaders, and those of ordinary Americans. It houses scientific specimens and technological wonders. It is home to art, music, films and writings with a collection of some 137 million items and more than two dozen museums and research center, the Smithsonian brings our national epic to life as nothing else can. Your guide is bestselling author, Dr. Richard Kurin, Under Secretary for History, Art and Culture at the Smithsonian. Shades of Gray Band

On Wednesday, February 7 sit back and enjoy some music. The Shades of Gray band will perform at 1:00 PM. They are an American Civil War era camp band, playing a mix of 19th century, old time and campfire songs. The band got its start as a group of Confederate Civil War reenactors. Shades of Gray had its beginnings as most camp bands of the era would have, with soldiers coming together around the campfire to swap stories and sing songs. Veterans Talk

The Veterans Talk group meets once a month on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. All Veterans are welcome to stop by for some coffee and conversation. Please call the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055 to sign up.

Hearing Clinic

The Sudbury Senior Center will have a Hearing Clinic on Friday, February 9 from 9:30 AM-11:00 AM.

Michael Drennan of Rogers Hearing Solutions will offer complimentary wax and hearing screenings on the second Friday of each month from 9:30 - 11:00 AM. Mr. Drennan is a Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist serving Marlborough area since 2000. Please schedule your appointment by calling the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055.

Foxwoods Trip – Feb 5, 2018

Foxwoods trips will continue on a quarterly basis with Deanna Sklenak and Ron Ragno organizing and promoting them—thanks Deanna and Ron! The Sudbury Senior Center is offering a free Comfort Food Caring Café on Monday, February 26 from

12:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Caregivers and their loved ones with memory challenges are invited to gather for a delicious lunch, entertainment, conversation, arts, music and laughter! This is a chance for you to get out of the house, and let go of your worries. Relax in the afternoon with a movie at the Sudbury Senior Center. We are currently showing “Paris Can Wait” on Monday, February 12, at 12:30 PM, rated PG, 1hr 32 mins. Pizza and a Movie

Have some pizza for lunch and then watch a movie at the Sudbury Senior Center. Pizza is served at 12:00 PM and the movie starts at 12:30 PM. Showing on Thursday, February 15, “Victoria & Abdul ” Rated PG-13 2hrs. In this historical drama, young Indian clerk Abdul Karim journeys to Britain to participate in the celebration of Queen Victoria's 50th year on the throne. Part-Time Van Drivers Wanted

J|J oin the team! The Sudbury Senior Center seeks part-time Van Drivers to transport Sudbury residents in handicapped accessible vans. Hours will be variable, a few to several hours/week some daytime, some evening hours available. Drivers must be, or willing to be, certified in CPR and first aid and willing to participate in required annual driver trainings. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing is required. Experience with older adults and persons with disabilities is preferred. Being flexible, kind and compassionate is essential. Must pass CORI check and have a good driving record. FISH Volunteers needed

FISH. (Friends in Services Helping) is a volunteer program that provides transportation for Sudbury residents to medical appointments, when their family and friends are not available. The volunteer drivers are under no obligation to accept any assignment unless it fits with their schedules. There is no monthly or weekly requirement. F.I.S.H. is a great way to help your neighbors in need. If you are willing to become a volunteer driver, please call Janet Lipkin at the Sudbury Senior Center at 978-443-3055.

Senior Notes Singing Group

This Senior Notes singing group meets on the first and third Thursday of the month at 12:45 PM at the Sudbury Senior Center. Lift your voice and lift your spirits by singing! Gather with us in Room 1 and we will provide you with lyrics (and sheet music for those who would like it) for a selection of familiar popular songs to share.

Mostly, we find a good starting note and sing a cappella, but sometimes we have recorded accompaniment to carry us along. We take suggestions for songs to add to our choices and invite all to join the fun! Please call the Sudbury Senior Center to sign up at 978-443-3055.

Help the Town and Earn a Tax Abatement

Applications are now available for the Sudbury Senior and Veteran Tax Work-off Programs at the Sudbury Senior Center. Eligible Sudbury seniors or veterans may be able to work in a Town Department and “earn” a tax abatement for the following year. In 2018, the abatement will be $11.00 an hour or $1,100 for 100 hours of work. Note: Veterans should submit a copy of their discharge papers along with their application. All applications should be delivered to Sudbury Senior Center, Tax Work-off Program, 40 Fairbank Road, Sudbury, MA 01776. Turn the Page Book Group

Join “Turn the Page” book group on the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM. Even if you have not read the book! LINC - Learning Intergenerational Community

LINC the new intergenerational after school program has a new session starting up in the Spring 2018, connecting 4th and 5th graders with adults 55+. Students and adults will have an unforgettable experience with this teacher-led curriculum for curious kids of all ages. Six structured after school sessions from 3:30-5:00 PM meet at Sudbury Public Schools. Adults 55+ are invited to participate.
