Geox Helps To Track Down Suspect; Phony Prescription Foiled

Chalk it up as another successful assignment for the quadriped cop.

K9 Geox helped officers track down a fleeing suspect during a search on Wednesday, Sept. 12

The incident began when an officer was investigating a person acting suspiciously on Woburn St.  near the Salter School. According to Police Chief Timothy Sheehan, that person was identified as Jason Fidalgo, 25, of 27 Bernier St., Lowell.

After identifying Fidalgo, officers learned he had an active warrant for his arrest. When he heard he had an outstanding warrant, Fidalgo allegedly took off on foot across Woburn Street near Pete's Variety Store and into the nearby neighborhood.

Officers, including Geox and his handler, established a perimeter and took up the search. Geox tracked Fidalgo to Highland Avenue, where he was located and placed under arrest.

Lowell man nabbed trying to pass false prescription

The sharp eye of a local pharmacist successfully spotted a phony prescription a Lowell man was attempting to have filled.

Paul G. Siopes, 410, 230 Mt. Hope, Lowell, handed in a prescription at the The pharmacist noticed something fishy about the prescription and called the office of the doctor who had supposedly written it. The doctor confirmed the prescription was a forgery and the pharmacist immediately called the Police Department.

Officers responded to the scene and arrested Siopes. He is charged with uttering a false prescription and attempting to obtain a prescription by fraud.

Arrests:

Mark L. Walker, 35, homeless, was arrested on Sept. 15 on a warrant.

James W. Devine, 23, 15 Littlefield Ave., Tewksbury, was arrested on Sept. 11 on a warrant.

Steve J. Escott, 47, 190 Moody St., Waltham, Mass., was arrested on Sept. 11 on a warrant.

Additional Incidents:

A woman called police on Friday, Sept. 14 and said that her son had been down at the Livingston Street Recreation Area. While there, she said he had been bullied, offered drugs, had witnessed a fight and had watched another child's bike and shoes be taken and thrown into the woods. An officer spoke with the woman.

The Chief of the Railroad Police called at 9:18 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14 and reported that a small truck had been abandoned along the railroad tracks near the Market Basket headquarters. A tow truck was dispatched to remove the truck and the owner was notified.

On Thursday, Sept. 13 at 4:12 p.m., a Patrick Road resident called police and reported that their Jack Russell Terrier had been bitten by a German Shepherd and that the owner of the German Shepherd was refusing to pay for the Jack Russell's medical bills. Animal control was notified of the situation.

On Thursday, Sept. 13 at 4:35 p.m., a woman called police and said she had been bitten by a dog in the Lake Street area. No charges were filed by officers spoke with all parties.
