Driver Crashes Into Pole, Arrested for OUI and Assaulting Officer

At 3:53 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, a 911 caller reported a motor vehicle accident on Maple Street at East Street with a car hitting a pole. National Grid and the Tewksbury Fire Department were notified as the pole was on fire.

Lewis J. McGrath, 28, of 5 Dragon Court, Woburn, was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of liquor, leaving the scene of property damage, marked lanes violation, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer.

Otis Street Resident

Also on Sunday, August 3, at 6:55 p.m. a homeowner called police to report his Otis Street home was broken into with the front door kicked in. A man at the home had warrants, and the officer requested a K-9 unit to the property.

Michael C. Varney, 26, of 24 Otis Street, Tewksbury, was arrested on outstanding warrants for two counts each of larceny by check and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. In addition he was charged with receiving stolen property greater than $250 and receiving stolen property less than $250.
