Tewksbury Residents Reminded Dog Licenses Must Be Renewed Annually

TEWKSBURY, MA — The Tewksbury Town Clerk's office is reminding residents about the rules regarding dog licenses, which must be renewed annually.

According to Town Clerk Denise Graffeo, all dogs 6 months and older in Tewksbury must be licensed, and a license is good for one calendar year, from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31.

Graffeo said dog owners have until March 15 to renew licenses, or late fees will be assessed.

Any dog 6 months or older that is new in town must be licensed within 30 days. Though a new dog can be licensed at any time during the year without incurring a late fee.

Licensing fees, according to the Clerk's Office are as follows:

  • From Jan. 1 to March 15: dogs who are spayed and neutered cost $15, while dogs who are not spayed or neutered cost $20.
  • From March 16 to July 1: Dogs that are spayed and neutered cost $20, while dogs not spayed and neutered cost $25.
  • From July 2 to Dec. 31: Dogs that are spayed and neutered cost $30, while dogs not spayed and neutered cost $35.

"A dog owner applying for a license shall be obligated to pay all outstanding fees relating to the past license period (2022) and any outstanding violation notices," Graffeo said in a statement.

Before a dog license can be issued, dog owners must present a current rabies certificate and a certificate of spaying or neutering, or have that proof on file.

Residents can apply for dog licenses at the Town Clerk's Office, at 1009 Main St, online or through the mail.

Dog owners applying through the mail, must send the license fee, current rabies certificate (unless currently on file), certificate of spaying or neutering (unless currently on file), and a self-addressed stamp envelope to: Town Clerk, Town Hall, 1009 Main St. Tewksbury, MA 01876.
