I write to voice my strong support for Gordon Cliff, running for the Board of Selectmen, and Jeanne Downs, running for a seat on the School Committee. Both of these candidates embrace what makes Wayland the vibrant community it is – premier schools, strong commitment to town services, the ability to work collaboratively and affordable housing.
Gordon Cliff has a proven track record in financial planning and management and has served on the town’s Audit Committee. He takes the time to analyze issues important to the town and to think strategically. As an example, he recognizes the planning and work that has gone into a proposed DPW facility, understands that interest rates are at historic lows, that the town can borrow money cheaply in today’s financial climate, and appreciates that this project is vital to support important town services; in contrast to his opponent who continues to ignore the comprehensive review and development process that Wayland has undergone for this municipal project. Gordon Cliff also understands the importance of supporting public safety and preserving open spaces and parks.

Jeanne Downs supports the development and advancement of our schools so that they can continue to produce the best students while containing costs and striving for maximum efficiency in the school budget. She has long been involved in the school system through the PTO in a volunteer capacity; this combined with her auditing and financial background makes her uniquely qualified to understand the needs of our schools. She advocates new educational initiatives to support the system’s core values, but in a fiscally responsible manner. Jeanne understands the importance of listening and working cooperatively with the community and town boards and officials. Her opponent’s interest in aggressive tax revenue management will ultimately be most felt in the classroom with increased class sizes and reduced course offerings.
Your vote counts on April 2. Please vote to keep Wayland strong by voting for Cliff and Downs.
