Local Foundation Outfits Wayland Middle Track Athletes
An increase in athletic enrollment is a good thing ... but it created a bit of a uniform problem for Wayland Middle School until a local foundation stepped in to help.

The reputation of the Wayland Middle School track team has been getting around:
It's a great program to be a part of.
That rise in popularity is a great thing as 20 new athletes joined the team for the spring season, according to a press release.

The extra athletes are a welcome addition, but outfitting them did provide a challenge.
"With a large number of athletes already fitted for spring competition, the team saw itself short of 20 jerseys for the season," according to the press release.

But that's when a foundation with its roots deeply implanted in Wayland athletics stepped up.
The Steve Henley Foundation, named after the long-time Wayland High School football coach, came forward and donated 20 new track jerseys to the team.
"We are here to help the progress of Wayland athletics," said Mike Henley, Steven Henley's brother and foundation spokesman. "Anything we can do would be an honor to my brother, Steve."
According to the press release, Steven Henley, who was a "founding father" of the Wayland/Weston Pop Warner program, "believed that all youth should have the opportunity to participate in sports," and "was committed to the success of all Wayland sports."
"The Wayland Athletics program and Wayland Middle School outdoor track team thank The Henley Foundation for their generous donation," the press release reads.
