New 'Wayland High School Athletics' Scam: Beware, Say Police

The "company" is calling local businesses claiming to be helping athletics teams, specifically cheerleading

WAYLAND, MA—Wayland police are warning residents of a new scam that hit town on Tuesday.

The Wayland High School Athletics Department told police that a third party marketing "company" is calling local businesses claiming to be helping athletics teams, specifically cheerleading, with fundraising and are asking for donations for the purchase of t-shirts or sponsorship on schedule posters.

"These companies are not working with the athletics department and have no authorization to solicit funds on behalf of the athletics teams," said police. "Specific companies identified thus far include Boost Sports, Touchdown Sports and Sports Media Advertising. If you are contacted by a company soliciting a donation on behalf of WHS Athletics, please always confirm with the Athletics Department for legitimacy."
