PHOTOS: Stop & Shop Throws a Party

Stop & Shop welcomed its customers in grand opening fashion Thursday night with a party spread throughout the store.

There wasn't much shopping going on, but there was plenty of mingling, eating, drinking and music during Stop & Shop's grand opening party at its Wayland location on Thursday night.

General Manager Mike Bussell presented checks to Parmenter Food Bank and Wayland-Weston Youth Football, citing Stop & Shop's commitment to partnering with local organizations and charities.

Bussell also recognized Cynthia and David Hill for their work in organizing a massive donations drive for victims of Hurricane Sandy in Breezy Point, N.Y.

"Your stuff is going out like wildfire," Bussell read from an email received from a firefighter in New York.

"Pretty much instantly, it has been impactful to the people of New York what the people of Wayland did with Cynthia and David and Stop & Shop support," Bussell told the crowd gathered in the store's produce section.

Donations filled two tractor-trailers over the course of just three donation days.

As official presentations and a ribbon-cutting continued, guests wandered the store, checking out its features and enjoying a wide variety of samples set up throughout the 45,000 square foot space.
