Virtual Author Talk: Dropkick Murphy—A Legendary Life with Emily Sweeney
After putting himself through medical school during the Great Depression as a professional
wrestler, John Murphy opened a training gym that was also an alcohol addiction
treatment center. Boston Globe reporter Sweeney covers the fascinating saga. Hosted by
Tewksbury Library in partnership with Wayland Library and others. Register. Tuesday, June 27

Virtual Author Talk: The Wishing Pool with Tananarive Due
Due’s second collection of stories is full of her signature offerings of horror, science fiction, and
suspense while confronting monsters of all kinds, including racism, the monster within, and the
supernatural. Her prolific body of work cements the author as a leading voice in black
speculative fiction for more than 20 years. Register. Wednesday, June 28 at 8 p.m.

Arts Wayland Exhibit Artists Reception
The theme for this summer’s exhibit is “Here Comes the Sun.” Stop in to see the show, and
discuss with the talented members of Arts Wayland themselves their interpretations.

Dystopian / Sci-Fi Book Group
A primal biblical epic flung into the future, Tochi Onyebuchi’s Goliath weaves together
disparate narratives into a richly urgent mosaic about race, class, gentrification, and who is

Virtual Author Talk: The Endless Vessel with Charles Soule
New York Times bestselling author Soule artfully channels history, science, and drama to create

Did you know that the Library has a database that covers articles and information about the
hospitality industry? Or one on criminal justice? How about environmental studies, sports
medicine, culinary arts, gardening and horticulture, or home improvement? There’s even a
collection of legal forms, not to mention all the financial, literary, and news offerings. Our

YOUTH SERVICES

SUMMER READING
Our 2023 Summer Reading Program Find Your Voice has started. Programming highlights
include Build Wave: a hands-on building game; Digging up Fossils with Dr. Sandra Pearl; live
animals with Joy from Joys of Nature, and a performance by the Toe Jam Puppet Band, as well
as many fun craft and STEM challenges. Kids can track their reading online or on paper logs to
earn raffle tickets for prizes. Every child who registers can pick up a goody bag at the library!
The Teen Summer Reading Program has also started. Programming highlights for teens include a
Henna workshop, making pride stickers, a beading workshop, and a Switch Tournament. Teens
can also track their reading to earn raffle tickets for prizes.

Storytime with Obie the Dog
Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful
Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. We will meet in the Raytheon Room.

Yoga with Little Beats
Join Little Beats for 30 minutes of yoga inspired movement. We will meet in the Raytheon

Outdoor Baby & Toddler Storytime with Ms. Carly
This storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and
rhymes, bounces, books, and body-awareness. Best for babies and toddlers, with caregiver.
Weather permitting, we will meet outdoors on the green lawn. Tuesdays, June 27, July 11, July
18, and July 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Outdoor Storytime with Ms. Pam

Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult.
Please register. We will meet in the Children’s Room. Thursdays, June 29, July 6, July 13, July
20, and July 27 at 10:30 a.m.

FOR ELEMENTARY AGE CHILDREN

Build It! Cardboard Robots
If you could build a robot helper for this summer, what would it do? Bring your imaginations to
build models of your summer robot using cardboard and recyclables. For ages 4 and up, with
caregiver. Please register HERE. Tuesday, June 27, at 3:30 p.m.

Buildwave: Hands-on Building Game
In this hands-on building game, kids will create with over a dozen different building materials.
The program is run by educators at Buildwave. For children ages 5 and up, with caregivers.

Origami for Kids
Children will learn simple and intermediate origami in this workshop led by Fenn school student
Lucas Li. For children ages 6 and up. Children under 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Please

Make a Bagel Face
Kids will make their own bagel faces! We will supply bagels, cream cheese, hummus, and fresh
veggies. For ages 5 and up. Please register HERE. Thursday, July 6, at 3:30 p.m.

Kids Cooking Green: Fruit Tarts
Kids will make open-faced fruit tarts with a chef from Kids Cooking Green. The workshop will
meet over Zoom. We will send out the recipe in advance so you can get the ingredients. For ages
4-7, with adult. Please register HERE. Friday, July 7, at 2:30 p.m.

FOR TEENS

Henna Workshop for Teens
Henna, more traditionally referred to as Mehendi art, is a temporary tattoo art form consisting of
intricate motifs that adorn hands and feet. This workshop will take an unconventional approach
to the ancient art form. Teens will begin by getting familiar with the henna cone, and then draw
patterns, such as flowers, leaves, and vines, on a canvas. Teens are also, of course, welcome to
draw on their own hands. All materials will be provided. Local teen Niyathi Srinivasan
from Henna for Humanity will lead this workshop. For teens in grades 6 and up. Please register

DIY Pride Stickers
Make your own stickers from scratch to celebrate LGBTQIA+ Pride Month! Use our premade
images or create your own hand drawn designs. For teens in grades 6 and up. Please register

Make a Wreck This Journal
Make a journal from scratch – and then wreck it! The idea is to create a book that has a different
