Wayland High School Christmas Tree Collection a Success

The Class of 2016 collected Christmas trees for what turned out to be a very successful fundraiser.

The Wayland High School freshman class spent last Saturday hauling Christmas trees off the curb and all the way to the Wayland Transfer Station.

But they weren't a pack of Grinches. The students were just raising money and helping out some Wayland residents at the same time.

Kathleen Thompson, a co-adviser for the freshman class along with Janet Manning, said the students visited about 150 homes to collect those trees. Thompson said more people sought the service, but signed up too late to make it on the list.

"It was a huge success!" Thompson told Patch via email. "This is the most response we have gotten in the past three years."

The students charged $15 ($10 for senior citizens) to remove the trees, and the funds support the freshman class at WHS.
