Wayland Historical Commission, Society Present Archaeological Program

WAYLAND, MA - On Saturday, October 15th, come and learn what life in Wayland was like as far back as the 1600’s. Salvatore DeMaio from the Anthropology Department of the University of Massachusetts will present an analysis of the artifacts collected from a parcel very near North Cemetery, the location of the first Town Center of Sudbury Plantation, which is present day Wayland. Mr. DeMaio will also discuss the archaeological methods used to analyze the artifacts. The presentation is from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Town Building in the Large Hearing Room. In addition to the artifacts that were discovered, Native American artifacts from Wayland excavations will be on display as well as an modern replica of an "atl atl", an ancient spear throwing device. Please bring any items you have found on your property or elsewhere for identification by experts from the Wayland Archaeology Group. Refreshments will follow.
