Wayland Police Department Announces Citizen's Police Academy

Chief Robert Irving is pleased to announce that the Wayland Police Department will conduct a Citizen Police Academy beginning on March 19. This eight-week program is designed to teach interested Wayland residents about the various tasks that are performed by Wayland police officers in the community. 

In addition to a tour of the Public Safety Building, participants will be exposed to topics such as: powers of arrest, O.U.I. enforcement, motor vehicle law, domestic violence, the court process, detective services and patrol procedures. 

There will also be a presentation on the history of the Wayland Police Department. As part of the course each student will “ride-along” for part of a shift with a Wayland police officer. There will also be an opportunity to observe and participate in a firearms demonstration. The course is designed to give interested citizens a better understanding of police operations in Wayland and the value of the investment made for public safety.

Any interested citizen of Wayland, age 18 and over, is invited to attend the Wayland Citizen Police Academy. Classes will be held in the training room at the Public Safety Building in the early evening.
