WBSA Kicks Off Season with Player Parade and Picnic

The streets of south Wayland were filled with young baseball and softball players Saturday for the annual WBSA parade.

The Wayland Softball and Baseball Association kicked off its 2013 season with its annual parade and picnic on Saturday, May 4.

Hundreds of players, coaches and parents joined Wally the Green Monster for a parade from Wayland Middle School to Cochituate Ball Field, causing a temporary closing of Main Street and West Plain Street (in case you were wondering what held you up on Saturday at about 10 a.m.)

The players carried their banners and sported their gear on the way to Cochituate ball field where games, photo ops and plenty of pizza awaited them.

Kathy Giakoumakis, owner of Liberty Pizza, was at the park to help serve up slices of the 130 pizzas Liberty prepared for the picnic. Liberty has provided pizza for the event for years and Giakoumakis said she calls in a lot of favors and has all her employees pitch in to make it happen.

Check out the short video of the players (and Wally, of course) headed through town.
