'We're Life Techs': Wayland Gym Opens Permanent Location

Curtis Williams opened Life Techs after 15 years in the fitness industry.

WAYLAND, MA — After a busy few months in its permanent home, a new fitness center in Wayland is seeing success.

Curtis Williams opened Life Techs after 15 years in the fitness industry. Now, a few years into the business, he is excited to be helping people feel confident and capable in their own skin.

Life Techs isn’t just a gym, as Williams and other coaches pride themselves on being what they say are "life technicians."

“We try to help and ask about how nutrition’s going, how’s sleep, and stress and things of that nature,” Williams told Patch. “We’re life techs.”

Life Techs first opened in Wayland two and a half years ago. Originally looking to secure a location at the plaza on Elissa Avenue, the business opened a temporary lease there in 2023.

Finally, this summer, Life Techs moved into its permanent home at 26 Elissa Ave. Since its grand reopening, Williams told Patch that he and his team of four coaches, Jessica, Dana and Hakeem, have really hit the ground running.

Life Techs is not an open gym, but a personal training model. Gym-goers can opt for private or semi-private, smaller-group classes.

“We’re not drill sergeant coaches, we wanna be the coaches that meet everybody where they’re at, and try to just help them elevate to what they aspire to be," Williams told Patch.

Classes are small at Life Techs, so that even if it’s not a one-on-one session, customers still get a custom approach, Williams told Patch.

In light of the first location's success, Life Techs could see expansion sometime in the future.

“The plan is growth,” Williams told Patch. “Right now, we have very specific goals for this location, and as long as we can hit those goals, then the next step would be to consider a second location.”

But now that the first location is up and running in a permanent spot, he said the most meaningful moment for him is when the gym is full of people, and he sees his and his coaches’ hard work pay off.

“Gym’s full, everyone’s laughing, having a good time, good energy, good vibes,” Williams said. “It’s pretty awesome to sit back and be like ‘Wow, you opened it, you’re doing the thing.’”
