Goodbye, Overdrive, Hello, Libby
Attention, OverDrive app users! OverDrive is discontinuing the legacy OverDrive app on May 1, 2023 and transitioning users to Libby, OverDrive’s newer, easy-to-use app for browsing and enjoying digital content from our library. All your loans, holds, and wish list items will be waiting for you in Libby when you add your library card. Our digital collection will continue to be available through our home page on desktop and mobile devices. Learn more here.

Dystopian/Sci-Fi Book Group
First published in 1972, Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky is widely regarded as one of the greatest science fiction novels, despite the fact that it has been out of print in the U.S. for almost thirty years. It inspired Andrei Tarkovsky's memorable film Stalker, as well as the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video games. Virtual Author Talk: Jason Gay
New York Times best-selling author Jason Gay will discuss his newest book, I Wouldn't Do That If I Were Me: Modern Blunders and Modest Triumphs (but Mostly Blunders). Gay takes a humorous and insightful look at life in the face of overwhelming societal change that we never anticipated—from the effects on parenthood, marriage, friendship, work, and play to all other aspects of the strange lives we find ourselves living. Virtual Author Talk: William Kent Krueger
In Fox Creek, Krueger's latest installment in his Cork O'Connor series, the former sheriff of Tamarack County in northern Minnesota finds himself in a race against time to save his wife, a mysterious stranger, and an Ojibwe healer from bloodthirsty mercenaries. Evening Book Group Featuring Author Jane Healey
Healey will be present for the discussion of her latest novel, Goodnight from Paris. In Nazi-occupied France, an American movie star takes on the most dangerous role of her life in a gripping novel about loyalty and resistance, inspired by a true story, from the Washington Post and Amazon Charts-bestselling author of The Secret Stealers. Library 175th Anniversary Celebration
Join us in the parking lot and on the green lawn behind the library for a gala celebration of our 175 years! We’ll have live music by two bands (one from WHS, the other including the Library’s own Andy Moore), activities and fun for kids (including face painting!), very brief remarks by very important people, and cupcakes and ice cream. And of course, the vast resources of the library. Sunday, May 7 at 3 p.m.

Library 175th Anniversary Exhibits
Our sparkling new vitrine now holds some fascinating artifacts from our history, including the original signatures of donors who contributed to the first library fund in 1848; some books from the first collection (including one from 1805 by Mercy Warren); and pictures of our founding fathers. On the Express Book counter, you’ll find images of early librarians, along with models of some of the library’s buildings.

FOR BABIES, TODDLERS AND PRESCHOOLERS

Babytime with Ms. Carly
This lapsit storytime encourages early literacy and caregiver-child interactions with lively songs and rhymes, gentle tickles, bounces, and body-awareness. Best for babies birth to 18 months. Please register. Tuesdays, April 18 and April 25 at 10:30 a.m.

Storytime with Ms. Pam
Join Ms. Pam for stories, songs, puppets, and activities. For ages 2.5 to 5 years with an adult. Please register. Thursday, April 20 at 10:30 a.m.

Raising a Reader
In this 6-session early literacy program children will sing, move, build vocabulary, early literacy skills, and a love of books. The Red Bag Lending Library provides families with 4 new books each week that are returned and exchanged the following week. Jodi Levin from Family ACCESS Community Connections will lead the program. Wednesdays, April 26, May 3, May 10, May 24, May 31 and June 7. (No session on May 17). For children ages 0-3 with caregiver. Register for all 6 sessions HERE. Limited to 10 families. This program is funded in part through a CFCE grant from the MA Department of Early Education and Care.

Storytime with Obie the Dog
Children will listen to dog stories and have a chance to visit with Obie, a beautiful Samoyed. Obie will be accompanied by his owner Helen. We will meet in the Raytheon Room. For ages 3 and up, with an adult. Please register HERE. Thursday, April 27, at 10:30 am.

Buildwave: Hands-On Building Games
In this hands-on building game, kids will create with over a dozen different building materials. The program is run by educators at Buildwave. For children ages 5 and up, with caregivers. Please register HERE. Wednesday, April 19, at 2:00 p.m.

Wild World of Reptiles with Joy Marzolf
Learn about our wonderful scaly friends and meet some reptile special guests. Local educator Joy Marzolf of The Joys of Nature will lead this program. Space is limited.
