WESTBOROUGH, MA - As the fourth bicycle safety week begins, the Westborough Police Department issued a new slew of tips for how drivers can remain safe on the roads they share.

  • Yield to bikers as you would motorists and do not underestimate their speed.
  • Search surroundings for other vehicles, including bicycles, when in parking lots and at stop signs.
  • When making a right on red, look to the right and behind to avoid hitting a bicyclist approaching from the rear. Stop completely and look left, then right, then left and behind before turning right.
  • Follow speed limits, go slower under certain conditions and drive defensively to avoid crashes.
  • Give cyclists room, don't pass too closely and treat them as you would with any other vehicle.
