An exhaust fan in a men's room at 160 East Main St. caught fire last night, fell to the floor and caused the linoleum floor to burn, Westborough Fire Capt. Calvin Lawrence said.
The burning linoleum "caused a lot of smoke,'' he said, but very few flames.
The smoke billowed out a window of the building, prompting initial concerns that the fire, which was reported about 9 p.m. last night, was larger than it turned out to be. The Northborough Fire Department was called out to help while the Southborough Fire Department provided station coverage.

The fire was extinguished within minutes. The building had a sprinkler system but it did not deploy, Lawrence said.
