Get To Know Westborough Pay-As-You-Throw: 2 Info Sessions
A major shift in how Westborough residents get rid of trash is coming. The town is hosting two meetings to cover what will happen.
WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough residents have just over a month to prepare for a major shift in how to take out the trash.
On July 1, the town will switch to a pay-as-you-throw system, which means residents will have to buy special bags to get rid of garbage at the transfer station. To prepare residents, the town will host two information sessions in June.
The switch will have the biggest impact on residents who use the transfer station to get rid of both garbage and recycling. In addition to buying the special bags, those residents will also still have to buy transfer station permits. The bags will be available at most local grocery stores, and will cost $10 for either a roll of ten 15-gallon bags, or five 33-gallon bags.

Residents who, for example, live in apartment buildings with on-site Dumpsters, or who pay for their own curbside pickup, won't have to buy the pay-as-you-throw bags.
If you want to know more, head to either the information session on June 5 at 10 a.m. at the senior center, 4 Rogers Road, or on June 18 at 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 34 West Main St. The June 18 session will also air on Westborough TV.
