Westborough School Bus Driver Arrested For OUI While Driving Students

The bus driver, a Marlborough woman, was arrested on several charges, including child endangerment and negligent driving.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Westborough police on Thursday morning arrested a bus driver on multiple charges, including drunken driving, who was transporting local students to school.

Police said they received reports Thursday morning about the behavior of a bus driver, who they caught up to at 135 East Main St.

"A thorough investigation into the matter was conducted and our officers worked diligently to gather information, assess the situation and take appropriate action to ensure the safety of the children involved," Chief Todd Minardi said in a news release.

Police arrested the driver, Jane Welch, 51, of Marlborough, on charges of OUI (liquor) as a second offense, negligent driving and reckless endangerment of children.

Westborough police did not identify the age of the students involved, and did not say which school the bus was serving.

Minardi thanked members of the community who reported the driver's behavior.

“We encourage anyone with further information or concerns regarding the safety of children to come forward, as your assistance is invaluable in our efforts to uphold public safety,” he said.
