26-Year-Old Westford Man Killed In Fatal Crash In Philipston
Police say the Route 2 crash was caused by a wrong-way driver.
WESTFORD, MA — A Westford man was killed in a fatal wrong-way crash in Philipston Tuesday night, said Massachusetts State Police in a news release Wednesday.
State police troopers from Athol responded to the crash on Route 2 at approximately 11:02 p.m. after receiving calls about a driver going west on the eastbound side of the road followed by reports of a head-on crash west of Exit 79, where Route 2 becomes an undivided highway with a single lane in each direction.
Investigators found that a 2014 Chevy Sonic and a 2018 Ford Escape crashed head-on. The Ford went over the guardrail and fell 20 to 30 feet down an embankment before hitting a tree and catching fire. Both the driver of the Chevy, a 24-year-old woman from Athol, and the driver of the Ford, a 26-year-old Westford man, were pronounced dead at the scene.
