Westford Group Honored at Beacon Hill Second Amendment Rally

Westford Pro2a, a group that worked against Article 30 here in Westford and is now advocating for gun owner rights across the state, was honored in Boston yesterday.

Article 30 ultimately did not make it to the floor of Town Meeting, and the movement that helped take it off the warrant received recognition on Beacon Hill.

On Wednesday at noon, the Gun Owners Action League, also known as GOAL, honored members of Westford Pro2A, a locally based Second Amendment rights group that advocated against Article 30.

The event was part of a rally that took place on Boston Common advocating for Second Amendment rights overall, and since the article was taken off the warrant, the group has reached out to local legislators and spread their message to other nearby communities.

However, Pro2A member Cori Ryan says the real goals of the movement are yet to be determined.

“We’ve become active at the state level talking with people about education and outreach, but what we’d like to do is possible provide an open area for discussion,” said Ryan. “We’re still working on that, nothing is decided yet.”

While the debate on gun control rages on across the country, Ryan notes that many of the issues in that debate, such as background checks and an assault weapon ban, are already in place in Massachusetts, and that vigilance is required to prevent a comparable warrant article to the one that almost came before voters in March.

“What people believe we have is different than what we have,” said Ryan. “Massachusetts has restated an assault weapons ban, and we have a high capacity magazine ban. Article 30 would have gotten rid of every gun that accepts a magazine, which includes firearms from the 1800s to today.”
