Hazelton noted that significant deficits are common at this point and that the recovering economy will provide new revenue and that net metering and more investigation of the town's health insurance plan can provide further savings.

Overall Philosophy

Hazelton doesn't see himself as running on a "ticket" with fellow challenger Jim Jarvie. He also defined himself as a "compassionate conservative."

Thoughts on a Prop 2 1/2 Override

He sees it as a last resort and it's too early to talk about it now, saying it would only would be appropriate when the lack of one would diminish town services, and that the best way to avoid one is efficiency in town services.

Signs on Route 110

There, it's a two part issue for Hazelton: safety in terms of sight lines for traffic and balancing the needs of residents and business, where he wants to follow a middle road.

One example he gave was a McDonald's in Freeport, Maine where the town made the McDonald's do a unique, but distinctive sign.

Regionalizing Housing Authorities

Hazelton serves on the town's two housing boards and he disagrees with the Governor's regionalization plan due to potential service delays that would impact residents, who are generally elderly or infirm.
