Wilmington Man Allegedly Drove Drunk While Carrying Gun
A Wilmington man was arrested on Thursday morning following a traffic stop in Tewksbury.

What began as routine speeding stop turned into more when the driver of the car pulled over by Tewksbury Police was allegedly not only drunk but was also carrying a concealed hand gun.
According to Tewksbury Police, the incident began Thursday morning at around 2 a.m., when officers pulled over a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro on Salem Road. Officers made contact with the operator and identified him as Charles Waitt, 22, of 3 Butterworth Road, Wilmington.
According to the report, the officers suspected that Waitt was driving drunk and he was asked to step from his vehicle. After doing so, Waitt was asked whether or not he had any weapons on him and he admitted to Officers that he was armed with a firearm.

The officers searched Waitt and discovered a loaded 9 mm handgun. Through further investigation it was learned that Waitt possessed a valid Massachusetts License to Carry a Firearm. However, it is illegal to carry a gun while drunk.
Waitt arrested and charged with OUI-liquor, Carrying a firearm while intoxicated, speeding and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
