BREAKING: Amtrak Train Derails In Vermont
The train derailed Monday morning in Northfield, Vermont.

Emergency personnel were responding Monday to an Amtrak train derailment in Northfield, Vermont.
Vermont State Police spokesman Scott Waterman confirmed the derailment in a phone call with Patch and said it happened in the “area of Bull Run Road.”

Emergency personnel were on the scene and “assessing the situation,” according to Amtrak’s Twitter account.
Four injuries were reported by the Montpelier Fire Department, according to the Burlington Free-Press.

Amtrak said on Twitter that the derailed train was the 55 Vermonter, and a status report on Amtrak’s website said the train was headed for Washington, DC.
The Vermonter runs daily between St. Albans, Vermont and Washington, D.C and last year served more than 88,000 passengers, according to the National Association of Railroad Passengers.
The Federal Railroad Association said on Twitter that it “is aware of the Amtrak derailment in Vermont and has sent investigators to the site. We will update as information becomes available.”
