Here's What Wilmington Will Get In The Latest State Budget

The budget is headed to Gov. Charlie Baker for final approval. Here's what we know about potential school and local government funding.

WILMINGTON, MA — The state budget passed by the legislature Monday includes $2.88 million in unrestricted funding for Wilmington as well as $11.72 million in Chapter 70 funding for Wilmington Public Schools.

The local funding is up 5.4 percent from $2.73 million last year. School funding under the spending plan rose 1.5 percent from $11.55 million Wilmington received in the fiscal year ended June 30.
Overall, local funding in the $52.7 billion package rose 5.4 percent to $2.07 billion from $1.96 billion last year. Chapter 70 school funding increased $495 million, or 9 percent, to nearly $600 million. The budget also includes $110 million to continue free, universal school meals for all school children in Massachusetts.

  • $25,000 for the construction of a World War II veterans memorial in the town of Wilmington.
  • $30,000 for sidewalk planning and design in the town of Wilmington.
  • $75,000 for repairs to the public school track and athletic facilities in the town of Wilmington.
  • $45,000 for improvements at the Wildwood school in the town of Wilmington.
  • $50,000 for the construction of durable long-term storage shed unit(s) at the Wilmington public safety building for use by Wilmington police and fire to store seasonal equipment.

The budget was hammered out in a conference committee and unanimously passed both chambers. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker has 10 days to sign the budget.
