Meet Wilmington's New Police Chief
Joseph Desmond, who had been acting chief since April, was appointed permanent Wilmington Police Chief.

WILMINGTON, MA — Joseph Desmond, who had been acting chief since April, was appointed permanent Wilmington Police Chief Monday by Town Manager Jeffrey Hull. Desmond replaces Chief Michael Begonis, who retired on April 5. Desmond started with the police department as a patrol officer in 1988.
"As a member of the department since 1988 Joe has dedicated his professional career to this department," Hull said in a statement. "I am confident that his collaborative leadership approach will build upon the excellent reputation that the department enjoys amongst its residents and throughout the Merrimack Valley."
Desmond was most recently Operations Lieutenant. Chief Desmond served on the the NEMLEC Tactical Police Force & Regional Response Team for many years during his time as a Patrol Officer and Sergeant.
