Boxer Richard "Dicky" Eklund, 58, of Lowell, was arraigned in Lowell District Court today on a charge of assault and battery on a family or household member, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced early Friday night.Judge Neil Hourihan set bail at $500 cash and ordered the defendant to stay away from, and have no contact with, the victim. The next scheduled hearing for Eklund is Monday, Sept. 21.At approximately 4 p.m., on Thursday, August 20, Lowell Police responded to a report of a domestic assault. The victim stated the defendant allegedly grabbed her by the arm and threw her to the ground resulting in bruising on the victim's arm and chest.Eklund is known for boxing professionally and was portrayed by Christian Bale in the 2010 film The Fighter, for which Bale won an Academy Award.The Lowell Police Department investigated this incident.
