Wilmington Names New Deputy Police Chief

Lt. Brian Pupa replaces Deputy Chief Robert Richter, who left the Wilmington Police Department in November.

WILMINGTON, MA — A 22-year- veteran of the Wilmington Police Department will serve as its next deputy chief. Lt. Brian Pupa replaces Deputy Chief Robert Richter, who left the Wilmington Police Department in November. Pupa joined the department in 1997 as a permanent intermittent officer and was appointed as a patrol officer in October 1998.

"I look forward to working along side Deputy Chief Pupa," Chief Joseph Desmond said in a statement. "His knowledge and experience will not only be beneficial to the Department, but will be extremely helpful to me as we look to move the Department forward."

Pupa holds a Law Degree from Massachusetts School of Law and is a 2017 graduate from the FBI National Academy Program at Quantico, VA. He was named lieutenant and head of the detective bureau in 2008.
