Tewksbury and Woburn police assisted Wilmington police after the motorcycle crashed with a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe.
WILMINGTON, MA — A woman riding as a passenger on a green 2016 Harvey Davidson FLSTC motorcycle lost her leg after it crashed with a white 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe on Chestnut Street in Wilmington Thursday. Police and first responders were called to the scene around 3:45 p.m. and found the woman with her leg partially amputated. Rescue workers applied a tourniquet at the scene of the crash.
According to the Wilmington Apple, which first reported this story, police canceled a call for a helicopter to transport the woman to a Boston hospital when they learned the MedFlight chopper was 25 minutes away. The woman, whose identity was not released, was instead taken by ambulance to Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
Woburn and Tewksbury police assisted Wilmington police, and the Massachusetts State Police have started an investigation into the cause of the crash.
