42 Trees On Chopping Block In Wayland: Removal Hearing Soon

WAYLAND, MA — This will likely be the last autumn for more than 40 trees in Wayland.

The town tree warden and the Planning Board on Tuesday will hold a joint hearing over the removal of 42 shade trees. Under state law, the town must hold a public hearing before crews start chopping.

The trees set to come down are along some scenic roads in town, and may pose a risk of falling over. Residents can also request to have trees removed that are dangerous or blocking access.

Town bylaws require the tree ward to plant one tree 2 inches in size or greater for every four trees removed.
