Congressman Announces $1.4 Million Grant for Worcester Airport

The funding will go toward better runway lighting, increasing visibility even in bad weather or other low-visibility conditions.

WORCESTER, MA – The Worcester Regional Airport is receiving a $1.4 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration, Congressman Jim McGovern said Monday.

It funds the Massachusetts Port Authority's efforts to to install a new lighting system on a taxiway to Runway 11-29, meant to make the airport safer during low-visibility conditions and bad weather, according to McGovern's office.

According to his office, McGovern has previously pushed to secure another $3 million in funding for the airport’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting station, and an additional $2.7 million for the construction of a partial parallel taxiway at the airport.
