Early Morning Crash Kills Spencer Woman On Route 49 In Sturbridge

Her vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer driven by a man from New Hampshire.

STURBRIDGE, MA—A Spencer woman was killed in an early morning crash on Route 49 in Sturbridge on Monday.

Around 7:20 a.m., Massachusetts state troopers responded to reports of a crash on Route 49 at the intersection with Putnam Road in Sturbridge.

Trooper Scott Shea discovered that a 2008 Buick LaCrosse, driven by a 50-year-old woman from Spencer, was headed westbound on Putnam Road and stopped at the intersection with Route 49, then pulled out, attempting to go south on Route 49. She was driving directly in front of a tractor-trailer car carrier, driven by a 54-year-old man from Manchester, NH.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the tractor-trailer sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Sturbridge EMS to Harrington Hospital. Identification of the woman will be released once all notifications have been made.

First responders are still on scene. Route 49 in the area of the crash, is currently closed and detoured for the investigation. The crash is still under investigation.
